Former President Rupiah Banda Diagnosed With Cancer
Fourth Republican President, Rupiah Banda has disclosed that he is battling cancer of the colon.
Mr. Banda says although it is a personal and private matter he has been moved to make this announcement taking into consideration that the Zambian people who honoured him with the privilege to serve them as Head of State, for which he will remain forever grateful and indebted, deserve to know that he has been diagnosed with the disease.
He adds that most importantly as the nation will no doubt recall that he lost his first wife, Hope Makulu Banda, to cancer and as fate would have it, his wife, Thandiwe Chilongo Banda is a cancer survivor, therefore, her counsel, encouragement and support, born out of her own experience, after having successfully battled this type of disease, is a great source of inspiration and comfort to him.
Mr. Banda 83, says he is grateful to His Excellency President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu for his personal support and that of government in facilitating for his treatment.
He has asked Zambians to pray for him as he continues to battle against the terrible disease.
This is contained in a statement issued by Chibeza Mfune, Deputy Administrative Assistant at the Office of the Fourth President.
And Zambia’s Higher Commissioner to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba through his facebook posting has wished President Banda God’s strength to fight the disease and a quick recovery.
