Minister To Payback Illegal Salaries
Four years after former ministers illegally overstayed in office after the dissolution of Parliament, the Constitutional Court has today ruled that the effected pay back within 30 day.The money to be paid back is between K54, 000 and K 61,000.
In 2016, President Edgar Lungu allowed ministers to continue in office after Parliament was dissolved.According to the registrar of the constitutional court Dorcas Malama who made the ruling on behalf of judges, the total amount K4.7 million.
In the main matter, the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and United Party for National Development general secretary, Stephen Katuka had challenged the continued stay of the ministers after Parliament was dissolved ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Some civil society organizations such as Gears and Alliance for Community Action have welcomed the ruling urging the ministers to pay without fail.The constitutional court has ruled that the money be paid from the date of the ruling which is December 7th, 2020.
