Several Zambian artistes and entertainers have expressed great shock over the sudden death of Caristo Chitamfya Jr, an ambitious radio personality and son to former ZNBC staffer Caristo Chitamfya Snr.
Chitamfya Jr famously known as Caristo Clear aka Mr Lecturer and Mr Lip Pose died in a tragic road traffic accident yesterday morning on Great East Road around 5 am.
This was barely hours after Caristo had attended the Macky2 ‘Ghetto President’ Album listening party hosted at SkyBar in Lusaka’s Roma Township.
The jovial entertainer was in high spirits and mingled and danced with most of the guests and fans at the show. When the news of his death broke out yesterday, social media was flooded with several messages of grief, shock and sympathy proving he was a friend to many.
Some friends who shared his last moments with him expressed shock at his untimely demise. Andrew Zulu of Andre Entertainments said Caristo’s death will be difficult to handle as it is seen as a great loss to the industry.
“I am in shock, you saw us at the show and he was in his usual humble and friendly self. I can’t believe this has happened but I know he is in God’s loving hands,” said Andre.
His sentiments were echoed by DJ Twizie who was with him at the party. Others that shared their grief on social media include Macky 2, Sphiwe Benasho, Hope Chishala, Mutale Mwanza, Bizzy Wizzy and a lot more especially after police confirmed Caristo’s death.
According to The Police assistant Spokesman Mr GODFREY CHILABI who confirmed the death, Chitamfya Junior allegedly misjudged clearance distance and hit into a light truck from behind.
“ This was along Great East Road near Handyman’s Paradise where two motor vehicles, a Hino light Truck registration No AJD 1064 driven by William Gwatilingashocking’ a resident of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka and Mercedes Benz Reg. No BAC 8166 driven by Caristo Chitamfya Jnr. aged 24 of Plot 706 Chalala in Lusaka,” sources from the police revealed.
Until his death Caristo was a well-known promoter of Zambian music and a social media activist. He was famous for his ‘Lip Pose’ social media trend. Later he become a motivational agent that flooded social media platforms with words of wisdom, inspiration and biblical talk.
In his media career, Caristo worked at many media outlets including Unza Radio,Joy FM and QFM.
And Joy FM Editor In Chief Kunda Kunda said, Caristo Chitamfya was a jovial young man who was older than his age. The media has lost a great talent that will not be easy to replace. Our thoughts go out to Mr. Chitamfya Senior and his Mother (Caristo’s mum). We wish them Gods strength in this trying moment.
Caristo Chitamfyas body lies currently in the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem.
